Expressing historical memories through modern design language in a space is a profound approach. In this concept, the glass corridor becomes the central design element, allowing external views to layer upon each other, as if time's fragments intertwine within the space. This method is inspired by the aesthetic of traditional Japanese spaces, where transitions and layering subtly reveal the interplay of history and reality. At the same time, through the flow of water and the interaction of light and shadow, the design seeks to capture a trace of historical atmosphere preserved through time.

The two projects are located on the former site of a Japanese expatriate elementary school, where we have carefully designed both buildings, expressing this historical memory through modern architectural language.
In this project, a glass corridor connects the two buildings, allowing views into multiple layers of overlapping scenery. We employed the traditional Japanese concepts of transition and layered space, using the proportions of fabric banners and incorporating stone and wood materials into the design. At the same time, we aimed to find a historical atmosphere that persists through time, enhanced by the interaction of flowing water and light and shadow.
For the focal point of the space, we collaborated with sculptors to place sculptures on the layered water surfaces, creating a sense of depth and proportion. The lighting in the lobby features light, wave-like points that display a rich theme of light and shadow in a group arrangement. The courtyard is surrounded by large areas of water, echoing the gentle sound of flowing water, resembling a serene lake.
The delicate pathways and flickering light from lanterns, along with deliberately sunken seating, encourage visitors to lower their gaze to the water's surface, allowing them to experience the rare coolness and tranquility in the scorching heat.
