Director And Design Theory

Incorporating design techniques such as "the flow of time, theatrical concepts, natural intrusion, and the contrast of light and dark," we utilize more intangible elements to deepen the design, thereby influencing people's thoughts and becoming the most authentic representation of existence in life.

Ching-Chi Su - Design Director

I wonder if you have ever been deeply moved by a scene that is "indescribable" and "vague". This scene may be the backyard of a small church covered with fallen leaves, or the sound of wind chimes ringing under the eaves while sitting under an oriental building, or the happiness of feeling the smoke rising from a small house in the misty mountains in early winter.
We believe that these inexplicable emotions and scenes are actually triggered by consciousness and emotions related to "existence". Between existence and architecture, the characteristics of the space of existence are not that it is a fixed form, nor does it mean that it only exists at a certain time. So from its appearance, it is not necessarily simple or complicated, and of course it is not necessarily a serious or purely joyful space. It has a deep sense of time, but sometimes it seems absurd and contradictory, but it has its inevitability. It is an "object" under the dissolution of light and often becomes a speaker of light. It often has endless details, so that it often leads people to thinking about nothingness. Sometimes it is constantly changing; sometimes it is unchanging (like a person's character); so it is desolate and at the same time makes people feel happy. It often gives people a sense of rightness, and also gives people a feeling of being nurtured... growing. "Existential space" often appears in the form of "life form" (not necessarily shape), so that we can see our own "finiteness and infinity" from it.

The consciousness of existence that existed when I was a child, when I learned about the formation time of basalt on the moon 4 billion years ago, I was shocked by my own insignificance and weakness, and a kind of silent pain was deeply engraved in my heart. Facing architecture, the only window that can express desires, it has become the most authentic presentation of life... I firmly believe that through the way of architectural creation, it can also give creators the meaning of "expression to obtain existence" like philosophy and literature.

Louis I. Kahn said, "Art is the expression of the soul and the only language of the soul." "The reason for human survival is expression, and art is the medium of human beings." Although creation is a long road full of endless frustrations, there is an endless desire for exploration, just like Sisyphus. Creation itself is a world. The act of creation is enough to enrich people's hearts. Only the endless design action can prove the value of self-existence.

Presence Theory

Ching chi Design has long been pursuing a "space design that expresses a sense of presence" as its goal, using the four directional languages of existing space and a special design method to execute space design.

God's care is only a kind of "comfort" for those who have a sense of existence.

Memories

Ching Chi has long embedded time and memories into the spatial design, attempting to induce a sense of spatial presence through memories.

Theater

The changes that happen all the time in our lives are constantly changing but follow certain rules. Chihg Chi uses the language of changeability and theatricality to develop design elements with complete details and a spatial form with a sense of theatricality.

Gaudí's bionic roof sculpture is made of broken glass bottles and decorated with them... The rich and complex randomness is matched with the random traces of the beige wall... There is a sense of "chaos"...

Light and Shadow

Light and shadow are the most important things in architecture. Ching Chi pays special attention to the opposite of light, darkness and shadow, which are accompanied by various emotions such as insecurity, and ultimately lead to a strong sense of spatial presence.

Aman Canal in Venice is an old building that has been restored and renovated into a hotel with only 25 rooms (the original family still lives upstairs). Looking at the building from the atrium in the dark, a sense of fear permeates the entire scene...

Mirror

Mirrors and nature exist in our lives all the time but are hard to detect. By magnifying and examining them, we can see amazing features that are usually hard to detect, and can use them to convey the space of existence.

In the square outside the Spanish train station, the artist's giant baby sculpture uses an unusual scale to allow us to have a deeper reflection by looking closely at the baby's outline and facial details.

Ching Chi Design aims to practice the theory of existence in design, but the most important focus is the complete reflection of the work and lives of all Ching Chi members, which ultimately shapes the final presentation of our projects.

Thus, at Ching Chi, in addition to receiving various awards for our works over the years, we have also diligently transformed our organizational operations. The richness of the aspects of life for Ching Chi members and the substantial resources invested in the new Ching Chi office serve as a design space that showcases our language of expression and the lives we lead within it. All of this is the result of our collective effort, highlighting the precious value of Ching Chi's labor.
